Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota College of<BR>Veterinary Medicine
is a non-profit organization which specializes in the<BR>medical care,
rehabilitation, and conservation of eagles, hawks, owls, and<BR>falcons.<BR>In
addition to treating approximately 800 birds a year, the
internationally<BR>known program provides training in raptor medicine and
surgery for<BR>veterinarians from around the world, reaches more than 240,000
people each<BR>year through public education programs and events, and identifies
emerging<BR>issues related to raptor health and populations.<BR><BR>Position
Description: The Raptor Center is seeking a veterinarian with an<BR>interest in
avian medicine to work in the country's primary center for<BR>raptor medicine
and surgery. The successful candidate will:<BR>* Work collaboratively with the
executive director and clinic manager<BR>and follow established protocols,
guidelines and rules including TRC's<BR>mission<BR>* Diagnose injuries and
illnesses through physical examinations, lab<BR>and radiography of injured and
orphaned wildlife<BR>* Administer appropriate treatment<BR>* Perform medical and
surgical procedures<BR>* Manage a caseload of raptor patients, as well as other
exotic bird<BR>referrals<BR>* Determine course of care including formulation of
diets, feeding<BR>schedules, and administration of medication<BR>* Monitor
raptor patients in care to determine recovery progress and<BR>readiness for
release<BR>* Monitor health of resident raptors<BR>* Complete paperwork involved
with bird care and state and federal<BR>reporting<BR>* Perform euthanasia and
postmortem examinations as needed<BR>* Provide hands-on practical clinical
training and supervision of<BR>residents, interns, externs and CVM students<BR>*
