Position: Full-time Veterinarian
Location: 1920 Fitch Ave, St Paul, MN 55108
Reports to: Executive Director

Description: The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota College of
Veterinary Medicine is a non-profit organization which specializes in the
medical care, rehabilitation, and conservation of eagles, hawks, owls, and
falcons.
In addition to treating approximately 800 birds a year, the internationally
known program provides training in raptor medicine and surgery for
veterinarians from around the world, reaches more than 240,000 people each
year through public education programs and events, and identifies emerging
issues related to raptor health and populations.

Position Description: The Raptor Center is seeking a veterinarian with an
interest in avian medicine to work in the country's primary center for
raptor medicine and surgery. The successful candidate will:
* Work collaboratively with the executive director and clinic manager
and follow established protocols, guidelines and rules including TRC's
mission
* Diagnose injuries and illnesses through physical examinations, lab
and radiography of injured and orphaned wildlife
* Administer appropriate treatment
* Perform medical and surgical procedures
* Manage a caseload of raptor patients, as well as other exotic bird
referrals
* Determine course of care including formulation of diets, feeding
schedules, and administration of medication
* Monitor raptor patients in care to determine recovery progress and
readiness for release
* Monitor health of resident raptors
* Complete paperwork involved with bird care and state and federal
reporting
* Perform euthanasia and postmortem examinations as needed
* Provide hands-on practical clinical training and supervision of
residents, interns, externs and CVM students
* Classroom teaching of residents, interns, externs and students
* Educate volunteers and the public about rehabilitation medicine and
environmental and human health issues
* Confer with education leadership in development of public and
classroom education programs
* Conduct/supervise clinical research projects
* Integrate clinical work with organizational strategic initiatives
* Conduct phone consultations
* Prepare and present conference presentations
* Maintain medical and surgical inventory and equipment
* Assist with on-call duties
* Attend weekly staff meetings
* Maintain good relations with other centers and institutions
* Pursue board specialty within certification if not already board
certified

Salary: Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
* Graduation from an accredited veterinary school with a doctorate
degree in veterinary medicine.
* A minimum of three years clinical experience
* A minimum two years supervisory experience in a clinic setting
* Prior experience with avian medicine
* Experience in raptor management and epidemiology
* Ability to work as a part of a conservation care and education team
* Conservation research experience
* Expectation of completion of board certification within five years
* Excellent communication skills.
